Sandra Barocio is an author and storyteller whose work explores migration, family, identity, belonging, and the complicated ways our earliest experiences continue to shape us. Her memoir, We Are All Others / Todas Somos Otras, traces her childhood as the daughter of Mexican immigrants and the hardship, joy, sacrifice, and love of building a life between cultures.
Her life beyond the page has been shaped by service. From AIDS advocacy to a lifetime of volunteering alongside migrant and underserved communities through her faith and church communities, Sandra has spent decades showing up for people too often pushed to the margins. A mother and grandmother, she writes from that same place of attention and compassion—turning one family’s story into an invitation to recognize ourselves in one another.

More about the author
Born in Brownsville, TX the youngest of 5 children Sandra writes, “My formal education was inconsistent, but my survival skills are exceptional.”
Sandra built a life in finance originally without a college degree, and later had a long career in municipality for San Mateo County, CA. She dedicated more than ten years to volunteering and to developing a nonprofit AIDS Services program under the auspices of Catholic Charities for San Mateo County. After retiring, she began work on her memoir, We Are All Others, which builds on her lifelong practice of journaling. In 2018, she appeared on KQED radio as part of the series “Letters To My California Dreamer,” which featured stories from immigrants and their families. In her moving letter, she shared personal reflections on her family’s history and their journey to California in pursuit of their dreams. She currently leads a Sandwich Box Lunches for fieldworkers in Half Moon Bay.
Sandra Lives with her husband, Danny, in Moss Beach, California, surrounded by the sights and sounds of farmworkers.
